A PACT WITH THE DEVIL

CHARLES "LUCKY" LUCIANO
A Pact With the Devil
On the military Channel, I heard details of a WW-II story of which little had been said when it happened 65 years ago. “Murder Inc.” crime boss, Lucky Luciano, had helped General Patton invade Sicily. Once ashore, Patton was met by a civilian who supplied detailed information about German defenses. That civilian was a local Mafia capo who took orders from Luciano, who was later heard to boast, “I won the war.”
It had been a pact with the devil, justified because WW-II was a war for survival. After the war, Luciano, serving a long sentence, was released and deported to Italy to run his “business” in comfort. The down side was felt by the revival of the Mafia, particularly in Sicily where it remains strong to this day.
At this moment, 2012, the U.S. faces an even creepier dilemma. After Barack Obama won the election in 2008, Sen. Mitch McConnell announced that the top Republican priority would be to defeat him in 2012. Their strategy was to oppose every program Obama wanted, even it had been a Republican program. No matter how vital to the economy, if  Obama wanted it, they’d fight it.
That they would hurt people and damage the country was irrelevant. They wanted power and by defeating every Obama initiative, they could point to a record of failure. That the failure was their doing was also irrelevant because they were sure voters were too stupid to put one and one together. That was and is their strategy.
Now we are held hostage.  Put Obama back and Republicans will continue to try to destroy the economy. Put Romney in, the top 1% will pig out, allowing a few crumbs to fall to the middle class.  The huge downside is a country run by a pack of creepy self-seeking liars willing to destroy the U.S.A.
The only solution is to sweep the rascals out and bring Obama back with a healthy Democratic majority. Go for it!

Optimistic or pessimistic that the rascals will be swept out? I can't decide.

Being 90 years in this world,  with great kids,  great grandkids, great wives (two, one at a time) and great memories, I wonder why some people seem to have stopped loving the U.S.A.? I will wonder in print right here. If you wonder too, or can provide some answers, please comment.
